Description
The barbell standing calf raise places a barbell across the upper back and performs standing calf raises from a step or raised surface. It is essentially the same as the barbell standing leg calf raise — a free-weight alternative to the calf raise machine.

Barbell Standing Calf Raise Instructions
- Set a barbell across your upper traps. Stand with the balls of your feet on a step or raised block.
- Let your heels hang off the edge. Lower your heels for a full stretch.
- Press through the balls of your feet to raise your heels as high as possible.
- Squeeze your calves hard at the top.
- Lower under control. Full range every rep.
- Use moderate weight.
- Aim for 15 to 25 reps per set.
- Hold the rack or wall for balance if needed.
