The smith seated one leg calf raise is a unilateral seated calf raise performed under a smith machine bar. The lifter sits with one foot on a block under the bar resting across the thigh. The bent knee position isolates the soleus.

Smith Seated One Leg Calf Raise Instructions

  1. Set a smith machine bar at the height of the seated thigh.
  2. Place a low block under the bar.
  3. Sit on a bench with the working foot on the block.
  4. Place the bar across the thigh just above the knee.
  5. Unrack the bar and let the heel drop below the block.
  6. Brace your core and keep the foot fixed.
  7. Rise onto the ball of the foot squeezing the calf.
  8. Lower the heel back down with control. Complete reps and switch legs.
