Dumbbell Standing Arnold Press

Dumbbell Standing Arnold Press

Description

The dumbbell standing Arnold press is the standing version of the classic Arnold press where you start with palms facing your body, rotate the dumbbells outward as you press overhead, and reverse the motion on the descent. The standing position adds significant core demand to the rotational shoulder press.

Equipment Required

Dumbbell Standing Arnold Press Instructions

  1. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart. Hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height with palms facing your body, dumbbells touching.
  2. Brace your core. Stand tall.
  3. Begin pressing the dumbbells up. As you press, rotate your wrists so palms face forward at the top.
  4. Continue pressing until arms are fully extended overhead, palms facing forward.
  5. Lower the dumbbells while reversing the rotation — palms face backward, then back to your body at shoulder height.
  6. Keep your torso upright throughout. The standing position requires extra core bracing.
  7. Repeat for the desired number of reps.
  8. Use moderate weight — the rotational component changes the stimulus.
