Description

The Smith toe raise is a standing calf raise performed using the Smith machine bar across the upper back. The fixed vertical bar path eliminates balance demands while allowing heavy loading for calf training. The Smith setup makes it easy to load progressively without spotters.

Smith Toe Raise Instructions

  1. Set the Smith machine bar at upper back height.
  2. Place a small platform or weight plates under the rack for elevated foot position.
  3. Step under the bar and place it across your upper traps.
  4. Place the balls of your feet on the platform with heels hanging off.
  5. Unrack the bar by rotating your wrists.
  6. Brace your core and stand tall.
  7. Lower your heels below the platform level for a stretch.
  8. Raise your heels as high as possible by pushing through the balls of your feet. Squeeze the calves at the top.
