Description

The hands release push-up lowers the chest fully to the floor and briefly lifts the hands off the ground before driving back up. The hand release at the bottom eliminates any momentum or bounce and forces a true full range of motion. It is the standard for military fitness tests.

Hands Release Push-Up Instructions

  1. Get into a push-up position with hands under shoulders.
  2. Brace your core and keep your body in a straight line.
  3. Bend your elbows to lower your entire chest to the floor.
  4. Pause briefly with your chest fully on the ground.
  5. Lift your hands off the floor briefly.
  6. Place your hands back down under your shoulders.
  7. Press through your hands to drive back up.
  8. Lock out the elbows at the top.
