Dumbbell Step Up Lunge

Dumbbell Step Up Lunge

Description

The dumbbell step-up lunge is a compound lower-body exercise that combines a weighted step-up with a reverse lunge. After stepping up onto a box, you step back down into a reverse lunge before reversing the movement. It builds unilateral leg strength and trains balance under load.

Dumbbell Step Up Lunge Instructions

  1. Stand facing a sturdy box or bench (knee-height) with a dumbbell in each hand at your sides.
  2. Step your right foot up onto the box. Drive through your right foot to stand fully on top.
  3. From standing on top of the box, step your left foot back down behind you into a reverse lunge.
  4. Lower your left knee toward the floor in the reverse lunge.
  5. Drive through your right foot to step the left foot back up onto the box.
  6. Step the right foot back down to the floor. That is one rep.
  7. Complete all reps on the right, then switch sides.
  8. Use moderate weight — the combination is more demanding than each exercise alone.
