Description

The twist step stretch combines a step into a lunge position with a torso twist toward the front leg. The lunge opens the hip flexor of the back leg while the twist mobilizes the thoracic spine. It is an effective dynamic stretch used in athletic warm-ups.

Twist Step Stretch Instructions

  1. Stand tall with feet hip-width apart.
  2. Step forward with one leg into a deep lunge.
  3. Place the same-side hand on the floor inside the front foot.
  4. Brace your core and keep your back leg straight.
  5. Reach the opposite arm up and rotate your torso toward the front leg.
  6. Look up at your reaching hand.
  7. Hold briefly at the top of the rotation.
  8. Return your hands to the floor and step back to standing. Switch sides.
