The standing back extension and flexion is a basic spine mobility drill. From a tall stance, you alternate leaning back to extend the spine and folding forward to flex it.

Standing Back Extension and Flexion Instructions

  1. Stand with the feet shoulder width apart.
  2. Place the hands on the lower back for support.
  3. Inhale and lean back to extend the spine.
  4. Push the hips forward as the chest opens.
  5. Hold the extension for a moment.
  6. Exhale and fold forward from the hips.
  7. Allow the arms and head to hang down.
  8. Return to standing and repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
