Chair pose II or Utkatasana II is a chair pose variation with the hands joined at the chest in prayer. The variation deepens the chest opening and challenges balance more than the basic chair pose.

  1. Stand tall with feet hip width apart.
  2. Bring the palms together in front of the chest in a prayer position.
  3. Exhale and bend the knees to sink into a squat.
  4. Sit the hips back as if lowering into a chair.
  5. Keep the chest tall and the prayer hands at the sternum.
  6. Press the palms together to open the chest.
  7. Hold the position with steady breathing.
  8. Press through the heels and stand back tall to release.
